Hanje, James, MD, FAASLD

James Hanje is a board-certified Gastroenterologist and Transplant Hepatologist. He completed his undergraduate degree and medical degree at The Ohio State University. After graduation from medical school, he continued his training at Ohio State, completing his Internal Medicine residency, Chief Residency, and Gastroenterology fellowship. He went on to complete a fellowship in Transplant Hepatology at the University of California, San Francisco. He joined the faculty at Ohio State in 2008 and was appointed Director of Hepatology in 2010. During his time at Ohio State, he helped build a team dedicated to the care of patients with liver disease. He started and directed the Transplant Hepatology fellowship program and was the successful sponsor for 2 recipients of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) NP/PA Clinical Hepatology fellowship. He was promoted to Professor of Clinical Medicine in 2020 and won numerous teaching awards including Teacher of the Year in 2010-2011 and 2014-2015. He joined Ohio Gastroenterology Group in 2021, and currently serves as Co-Medical Director for the Comprehensive Liver Center at Ohio Health. He also continues to serve as an Adjunct Professor at The Ohio State University. He and the team at the OGGI/Ohio Health Comprehensive Liver Center aim to provide the highest level of care to patients with liver disease and are proud to serve patients throughout the state of Ohio and beyond.
