John R. Scherer, MD

Dr. John R. Scherer joined Ohio Gastroenterology Group in 2014 after completing an advanced endoscopy training program at The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. This additional fellowship year provided him with specialized training in advanced endoscopy techniques including endoscopic ultrasound, fine needle aspiration, endoscopic mucosal resection, radiofrequency ablation and cryoablation of Barrett’s esophagus, as well as training in esophageal, enteral, and colonic stenting. Dr. Scherer served as the chief fellow at UPMC and has earned numerous honors related to clinical care and research. Dr. Scherer is board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. He is married to Dr. Karolina Zareba, a Cardiologist at The Ohio State University Medical Center, and they have a wonderful son named Christopher.
